On June, 16 in the context of the informative and educational program “On The Edge” the world-famous composer and singer Sir Elton John gave the free charitable concert organized by ANTIAIDS Foundation. It took place on Maidan Nezalejnosti and broadcasted live on the “New Channel”. There was TV marathon on the channel before the concert. Ukrainian celebrities took part in it and demonstrated their active social position in the fight against AIDS. “New Channel” with Elena Franchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation and Elton John AIDS Foundation assistance told to the TV audience about HIV/AIDS threat and its terrible consequences through the movie-stories of HIV-positive people and films devoted to the HIV/AIDS epidemic spreading in Ukraine.

“New Channel” audience drew great attention to the TV marathon and the concert – during the broadcast the audience share run up to 20%. That was the record for the channel.  It means as the curtain fell the amount of TV viewers run up to 4 millions. That day over 200 000 people came out to see TV marathon and the great show on Maidan Nezalejnosti.

Before and during the concert 220 volunteers, mainly students, disseminated 60 thousands flayers about HIV/AIDS, 150 thousands flayers with the information about testing and counseling centers, provided by Kiev AIDS Center, and 49 thousands condoms, provided by TM DUREX.  Along with volunteers number of Ukrainian celebrities agreed to participate in condoms distribution.

Informative and educational program “On The Edge!” was launched in Ukraine on the national TV channels in May, 2007. This campaign is an attempt to say to every Ukrainian that he is able to stop the epidemic taking care of their safety and protection.   

In the nearest future the new team-work of Elena Franchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation and Elton John AIDS Foundation will be launched. ANTIAIDS Foundation pledged a $2, 5 million grant for this project. The program is aimed to the help for Ukrainian HIV-positive children, and orphans first of all.
